Your Russian Girl Will Be Busy This Day Greeting Her Dear Mother. Learn Why? |
Any of us remembers the date of the International Women's Day even if we're awoken in the middle of the night. Also, many people have heard about the International Mother's Day. But few people know about the Russian Mother's Day, and the question "when is it celebrated?" makes them feel stumped.
Furthermore, for many people, not only the date but also the actual existence of the holiday will be like a discovering. Be informed that in 2017 this holiday will be celebrated on November 26.
Meanwhile, Mother's Day in Russia is celebrated almost twenty years! Since 1998. That year this holiday was officially established and it was decided to mark the date every last Sunday of November.
For Russia, this holiday is rather young. However, Mothering Sunday has been celebrated throughout the world for the fourth century - an analog of our Mother's Day. Initially, it was a private holiday, but in 1910 Virginia State of the US made Mother's Day official, and in 1914, US President Woodrow Wilson
declared the second Sunday in May a national holiday in honor of all American mothers.
Soon other countries joined this holiday, celebrating it every second Sunday in May. And about 30 states celebrate Mother's Day on other days, for example:
Ukraine women celebrate the holiday May 12.
Armenia mothers accept greetings April 7.
Belarus ladies expect the greetings October 14
Great Britain people greet their mothers April 3.
Georgia Mums accepts greetings March 3
Kazakhstan beautiful women do it September 16.
It's customary to visit mothers and to give symbolic gifts this day. In Russia country, the main symbol of this holiday is a teddy bear with violets in its paw. Such toys can be bought in stores. And in some cities volunteers give a plush symbol to passers-by on the street, reminding of an important date on Mother's Day. As an option, you can buy a postcard with a picture of a bear in any store. By the way, in terms of the number of flowers sold, the International Mother's Day ranks fourth place.
